Brunel also encourage their students to seek internships in industry during their third year and we are active in looking for companies both in design and manufacturing who will take one or more students for a year.

We are helping Brunel by introducing new companies to Brunel, this is spearheaded by Dominic Meyrick of Hoare Lea.

As you will have noticed, in a separate article, we have taken back control of the LET Diploma in Lighting Design and are now administering the whole process ourselves through the good offices of Ms Pom Daniells, the administrator who can be reached at CIBSE.

The new diploma course is better organised, with a wider curriculum with fixed assignments and an examination at the end of two years study. It is a comprehensive distance learning course carried out at home. Examinations will take place in London or the country from which the student comes by using the offices of the British Council. Whilst there are no workshops there are tutors available for students to ask questions of, if they are stuck or something is unclear to them.

We are always looking for new tutors who can offer their experience and knowledge to help the students. The subjects studied can be found on the brochure found in the Diploma folder. If you think you can help someone then please get in touch with the Administrator.

We recently have undertaken to sponsor the Young Lighter of the Year completion, run by the Society of Light and Lighting, which encourages young designers to express themselves through the medium of the written word and for the finalists by using their presentation skills to get their voice heard.

In a rapidly changing world we are dedicated to providing, with the lighting Institutions and Industry, appropriate and relevant lighting education for all levels on needs.
